Privacy Policy

Effective date: 11 June 2026 · Applies to atharsmy.com and the Household Zakat Calculator.

1. Who we are

This website is operated by Sheik Mohammed Yesdani Athar (“S M Y Athar”) at atharsmy.com. The site includes a public profile, family history pages, and an optional browser-based Zakat calculator.

For privacy questions, contact: athar.smy@gmail.com.

2. What this policy covers

  • The main website (home, family history, and related pages)
  • The Household Zakat Calculator at /zakaat/
  • Optional Google Drive backup when you choose to connect your Google account

3. Main website

The profile and family history pages are static. They do not require you to create an account or submit personal information to us.

We do not run advertising trackers or sell visitor data. Standard web server logs (such as IP address, browser type, and pages requested) may be recorded by our hosting provider (GitHub Pages) as part of normal internet operation.

4. Zakat Calculator — data stored on your device

The Zakat Calculator runs entirely in your web browser. Household financial data you enter (family members, assets, payments, rates, and related information) is saved in your browser’s local storage on the device you use.

  • We do not operate a backend server that receives or stores your zakat data.
  • Data stays on your device unless you export it or use optional cloud backup (below).
  • Clearing browser data for this site will remove locally stored calculator data.

5. Optional Google Drive backup

If you choose Connect Google Drive, you sign in with Google using OAuth. We request the drive.file scope, which allows the app to create, read, update, and delete only files that the app creates in your Google Drive (for example Excel backups under MY_FAMILY/ZAKAAT/).

  • We do not receive your Google password.
  • We do not access your entire Google Drive — only app-created backup files.
  • Backup files are standard Excel workbooks containing the data you chose to back up.
  • You can disconnect Google Drive at any time from within the app.
  • Google’s use of information is governed by Google’s Privacy Policy.

6. Market rate lookups

If you enable live or yearly market-rate fetching, your browser may contact third-party public APIs (for example metal-price and currency-rate services) to retrieve indicative market values. Those requests are made directly from your browser to the third party; we do not proxy them through our own server.

Only the information needed to obtain rates is sent (such as API requests for public price data). Your household zakat records are not transmitted to those services.

7. Excel export and import

You may download backup or report files to your device, or import a backup file you already have. Import and export are processed locally in your browser. Files you download are stored wherever you save them on your device or cloud storage.

8. Cookies and similar technologies

This site uses Google Analytics 4 on the main pages and the Zakat Calculator to collect anonymous usage statistics (page views, navigation, section engagement, outbound link domains, and Zakat app tab usage). Google Analytics may set cookies or use similar technologies; see Google’s Privacy Policy.

We do not send personal information to Google Analytics — including individual names, email addresses, social profile URLs, zakat records, household member names, asset values, backup file names, or financial data.

Family-related analytics are limited to: (1) the public family name Athar when visitors view the Family Name section on the Family History page, and (2) an optional family name you enter in the Zakat Calculator (saved locally in your browser). If you save a household family name in the calculator, that value may be sent to Google Analytics as family_name on family_name_set and family_name_active events — not member names or financial data.

The Zakat Calculator may store small configuration values in local storage (for example Google Drive sync preferences). Google Sign-In may set cookies or similar storage when you authenticate; that is controlled by Google.

9. Children’s privacy

This site is intended for adults managing household finances. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

10. Data retention and deletion

  • Browser data: delete via the app’s “Clear all data” option or by clearing site data in your browser settings.
  • Google Drive backups: delete files directly in your Google Drive.
  • Downloaded files: delete from your device as you normally would.

11. Security

The site is served over HTTPS. Because calculator data is stored locally and optional backups are stored in your own Google account, you are responsible for securing your devices, browser, and Google account (including two-factor authentication where available).

No method of electronic storage is completely secure. Use the calculator and backups at your own discretion for sensitive financial information.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date at the top will be revised when changes are made. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
